    12 Month Calendars

I was looking for a 12 month calendar in the d/l section but was unable to find any. According to the Cirriculum Scenarios it lists a 12 month schedule but are there no calendars for parents?

This is our first year running K4T, and we are finding it nearly impossible to keep pace on a 9 month schedule. It's been difficult getting parents involved which means the majority of the study time is during the club night.

I'm assuming a 12 month calendar would follow the same pattern as a 9 month, but you would have 3 weeks to work through the 5 staggered Q&As.

    Re: 12 Month Calendars

    Chad,

We are currently working on 12 month calendars for the parents that are easy to read and not overwhelming.  Until those are available the chart below will help you show how much work needs to be done each week in order to achieve year-end goals.

When working on a 12 month schedule, the child should plan to study each doctrinal theme for 8 weeks in order to keep on track to finish within 48 weeks (1 year).

Please keep in mind, not every child will earn every award patch.  We recommend that you encourage each child to earn at least the first two patches for every doctrinal theme so that they have an overview of the theme.

Some clubs choose to keep their children learning within the same doctrinal theme so that no one is left behind.  In this scenario, the child would have 8 weeks to earn up to 5 patches for each doctrinal theme.  For those children who are less motivated or do not get help at home, this allows them a fresh start every 2 months so that they do not feel like they are so far behind that they can never catch up.  There are several options you can use to keep the motivated or achiever child challenged when he/she finishes all five patches before the end of the 8 weeks:

    1. Go back in past themes and earn missed awards.
    2. Help a friend learn their work.
    3. Earn Award Certificates for saying all 10 Q&A at one time.
    4. Go on to the next doctrinal theme.

Getting parents involved or working with their child at home is a challenge.  We find that the more parents are informed about the program the more they get involved or help their child.  You might try one or more of these ideas:

    1. Send home monthly/bi-monthly flyers letting the parents know the doctrinal theme you are studying and the "goal" of which theme they should be studying this month.
    2. Send home parent informational packets.
    3. Send home curriculum explanation flyers. (these are new one-page curriculum explanation pages let the parents know what is expected from their child in order to earn an award patch.)

We trust these ideas will be a help.
