  • Meet Julie!

Gillens-4-07cropped Julie is our Financial and Communications Manager.

Julie has held several positions over the years in both Christian and Secular fields including: The Wilds (1995-1998), Design On-Line (1998), Tri-City Ministries (1998-2000), Children's Scholarship Fund of KC (1999-2004), and Planet Technologies (2003-2005).  It is a joy to have her working with us with our finances, shipping & inventory, and technology departments.  She has worked with us since 2001 when she came on board to help with the World Trade Hope Booklets.  Julie holds a BS degree in mathematics from Bob Jones University.

Please share with us your personal testimony: I grew up in a Christian home, and was saved at the age of 12 during summer camp.  I praise the Lord for how he lead me through my teenage years, and kept me away from the rebellion/peer pressure that many teens face.  During high school, I surrendered to serve the Lord in whatever way He wanted me to serve – whether that be full-time ministry, or wherever.  After high school, I was privileged to attend Bob Jones University, where I met my husband Rob.  We served together (while dating) during the summers at the Wilds Christian Camp, and it was such a blessing to begin our lives together in ministry.  We were married one week after graduating from Bob Jones, and immediately went to work in ministry at Tri-City Ministries in Independence, MO.  God then led Rob to assist Bob Roberts in beginning the Kids 4 Truth ministry through the website, and I am grateful to be able to work with the team as well.

Tell us about your family: I married Rob on May 16, 1998.  We have two children, Erika (2 years old) and Matt (1 year old).

How long have you been a part of the Kids 4 Truth Team?  I began formally volunteering with the Kids 4 Truth team in September of 2001, during the World Trade Hope project.  I’ve been blessed to be able to continue to serve in various ways since that time.

Why are you a part of the K4T Team?  I have always wanted to work in ministry, and am thankful that God lead Rob to work with Kids 4 Truth, and that the team had a place for me as well.  Kids 4 Truth’s mission to is “teach children why they believe what they believe.” I’ve seen too many kids stray from God, because they never truly understood why they believed it.  I’m burdened that children learn this, so that when they are confronted with all the world is, that they won’t stray, but will be able to stand fast in their faith.

What part of the K4T ministry is your favorite and why?  While it can be extremely frustrating at times, I thoroughly enjoy managing the finances for K4T.  IT can be very stressful to manage the finances for a non-profit ministry, as you don’t always know where the funds will come from.  However, I get to see first hand how God is blessing in this way, and thoroughly enjoy that.  Plus I just love to crunch numbers! J

What K4T project have you enjoyed working on the most?  Being a part of the World Trade Hope Project ,and getting the curriculum going are the two projects which have been a huge joy to work on.  However, I enjoy working each and every day as well!

What K4T job would you NEVER want to do?  Honestly, most of the other jobs J  I would not want to have to travel/raise funds like Bob does, nor would I enjoy “juggling” all of our churches as Marrena does so well

If someone wanted to be in the ministry but did not know where God wanted them to minister, what advise or counsel would you give to them?  Keep moving forward towards working in the ministry and God will lead.

What do you like to do with your spare time? I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking, decorating, and scrapbooking.  I also enjoy traveling, when I get the chance, which isn’t as often anymore

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself. In 2004, I spent 13 weeks in Europe, working on various projects for Planet Technologies (the company I worked for then).  I was able to visit Switzerland, Italy, England, Germany & the Netherlands.

I won $5 in a Coke Magic Can (when I was about 10) – anyone remember those? J MattnJulie

Do you have a prayer request to share?

    • Pray for my mom’s continued good health
    • Pray for Matthew’s adoption to be completed soon
    • Pray for Erika & Matt to be saved at an early age

What is your favorite Bible verse/passage?  Psalm 62:8 - Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us.
